The iPhone 5 could be substantially delayed and will be launched in October (not September), reports AllThingsD. The reporter cites information from a source familiar with Apple’s supply chain that a September launch is improbable, and in fact argues that an October release date is most realistic.

So, when can we expect the company to uncrate the iPhone 5?
“October,” the source said, while declining to offer a hard launch date. Other sources said it will be later in the month rather than earlier.
The source additionally claims that the information on AT&T blocking vacations for last two weeks of September was incorrect and confirmed that iPhone 5 will only be retailing in the month of October.
The delay in next generation iPhone 5, however, square perfectly with an earlier report where a Chinese site, claimed that the iPhone 5 will be delayed because A5 processor is overheating in the iPhone 5.
While obviously such a report has to be taken with a grain of salt, AllThingsD has been “fairly reliable” in the past and probably does have solid sources in Apple’s Taiwanese supply and manufacturing chains. But then there is a slightly geeky burning question – Will Apple announce iPhone 5 in its now-annual September iPod media event or not?
