The oft-quoted DigiTimes is reporting that Apple key partner Pegatron Technologies – a subsidiary of ASUStek- have landed a manufacturing orders for 15 million iPhone 5 (iPhone 4S) from Apple. The fifth generation iPhone is scheduled to ship in September and will not witness any major update from iPhone 4, the industry sources added. Neither Apple nor Pegatron is expected to confirm any production plans.

Taiwan-based notebook maker Pegatron Technology is estimated to have landed orders for 15 million iPhone 5s (iPhone 4S) from Apple and is set to start shipping in September of 2011, according to sources from upstream component makers. In response, Pegatron declined to comment about its cooperation with clients.

After having won orders for 10 million CDMA iPhone 4s, the company shipped less than four million CDMA iPhone 4s, dropping utilization rate drastically. The production cut can directly be attributed to low demand of Verizon units and upcoming iPhone 5 models.
This order could be a major win for Pegatron in the light of a human power since the company’s utilization rate dropped to 50% and gross margin dropped to 1.8% due to declining sales of CDMA iPhone 4.
The fifth generation iPhone 5 is already in the final testing stage and are being used by high-level Apple and carrier executives. According to the supply chain checks reported few days back, Apple will push one model of the new iPhone in the production line for October launch. If accurate and linked to previous slips, iPhone 5 could be launched with A5 powered dual mode CDMA-GSM chipset and 8-megapixel camera this year in October.
